SPIDER VEINS

Spider Vein treatment is accomplished by removing the abnormal veins with the same new 940 nm ELVeS system. This modern technology can be used with a hand piece by which the laser energy is passed transdermally through the skin without actually entering the vein causingthe Spider Veins to disappear instantly. The procedure is quick, safe and effective.

Larger Spider Veins can be treated by the local injection of scelerosing agent. The most effective agent available is STD (Sodium Tetra Decyl sulphate) 3% which is injected by a very fine needle directly into the vein under magnification. This solution in the vein immediately causes the vein to get completely obliterated. To cause this sort of endothelial damage the 3% solution acts only on the superficial vein after which it gets diluted in the blood stream and has no deleterious effect on the deep veins. Hence it is a very quick and safe method of treating the larger Spider Veins and Telangiectasia.

VARICOSE VEINS

For the small and medium sized varicose veins less than 2 mm in size sclero therapy is the choice of treatment, which has been described under the heading Spider Vein Treatment. There are no scars and it is performed under local anaesthesia in the clinic after which the patient goes home wearing a compression bandage for 72 hours followed by the compression stocking for 1-2 months. During this period the patient is encouraged to perform all normal activities and to walk as an exercise.

For medium and large size varicose veins the ELVeS laser system is used. As described under the section on Lasers the laser fibre is passed into the vein through a needle and laser energy is used to immediately and permanently destroy the structure of the vein wall and thus exclude it from circulation, thereby curing all the symptoms that the patient may have. In this form of treatment also there are no external scars and the patient walks out of the clinic after a 1-2 hour procedure.

It is only in complex varicose veins which may have been operated earlier and where cosmesis is not the problem where the old method of surgery, which involves surgical removal of the entire diseased vein, may be advised. This is, however, only in rare cases where the patient has come late and has already developed several complications like severe varicose eczema or ulcers.

In 98% of the cases of varicose veins, the patient is treated with perfect cosmetic results - safely, effectively and quickly. The patient then walks back to his / her normal life immediately after the treatment.

DEEP VEIN THROMBOSIS (DVT )

If the patient comes to the clinic with 4-6 hours of the thrombosis or blood clot in the vein developing then the clot can be removed surgically after which blood thinner can be given to prevent recurrence of the problem.

If the patient comes late then blood thinner are given to slowly dissolve the clot over a period of 3-6 months. The blood thinner have to be carefully monitored to maintain the adequate level of the thinners so that there is no bleeding and it is also effective in dissolving the clot.
